A First

I’ve been tagged by Usha at Veg. Inspirations, my latest ‘cyberpal’, to give a little glimpse into my non-food blogging self. I usually get a bit jittery doing such things, but I figured there was no time like the present to start getting over myself, so here goes:

1. What was I doing 10 years ago?

Finishing up my teenage years.

2. Five things on today’s ‘To Do’ list:

  • Rinse and put away herbs & produce purchased at the farmers’ market this afternoon.
  • Cook dinner
  • Finish writing post scheduled for publication
  • Weekly recycle/garbage segregation
  • Catch up on emails

3. I’m addicted to:

  • Tetley Tea, with milk and honey (seriously, I would drink this by the half hour if I could).

4. Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

  • Complete my collection of books and set up that dream library
  • Travel
  • Learn several new skills
  • Travel

5. Places I have lived in:

Chennai, Dar-es-Salaam, Kodaikanal, Paris, Tatsuno-shi, San Francisco.

(And while we’re at it, here’s another little peek at my non-food-blogging side):

I am afraid I won’t be tagging anyone else (this is a first for me, after all, so hopefully people understand) but thank you for giving me the chance to play, and here’s to more such exchanges!

Cheers, Usha!

  1. Hi Anu,
I enjoyed reading your responses to the tag,I was nervous too with all of this hype,I am new to the blogging world after all, just been doing it for 2 months now anyway I kind of try this with a “I’m game” attitude or at least I try too.Another thing, you have also been given the magic lamp, you can pick that up too if you feel up to it,no pressure:)
The sketch you have put up is very good, did you do it yourself?

  2. Hi Usha,

Thanks! Yea, it’s funny how it gets a little intimidating-even though I’ve been blogging for a bit now! But I like your ‘game’ attitude; that’s the way to tackle the ball! :)

I have some contract agreements with Foodbuzz about posting logos on my blog, so I will have to get their permission about the Magic Lamp before putting it up.

Thank you; and yes, I did do the sketch myself :”>

  3. Awesome sketch, shows your creativity is not limited to your kitchen:)

  4. Thanks, Usha; that’s very kind of you!

  5. Wow, anu, what a gorgeous drawing! I love the way the hair curls on her neck – if I tried that it would look like a wig :) I cant do portraits of people to save my life – I’m more the copying-Disney-and-other-cartoons type of artist :D I paint those on t-shirts and fabric, though. What else do you do on the artistic side of things? Embroidery at all?

And double wow, you lived in Dar-es-Salaam too? You’re way younger than me, so I would guess not at the same time as I was there – but we lived in the Upanga area for YEARS, way back in the 1980s. :)

  6. Hi Shyam,

    Such lovely compliments…thanks (blush blush)!

Drawing Disney characters is no small feat; hurray for that!

Imagine that! You lived in Dar-es-Salaam too…! I was there for 2 periods; first from soon after birth until 4 years (c. 1983), and then for about a year and a half when I was 11. Can’t remember much about it; would have to ask Dad for details!

I can’t thread a needle to save my own life; but what amazing embroidery you do!! Have you been doing it for long? I couldn’t imagine doing anything even half as fabulous! Knitting about 3/4ths of a scarf every winter is about as much needlework I do..;)
